Who Is Karen?
Karen is an Army Veteran, married to an active duty military member, and has 3 children, one of whom has special needs but because he is exceptionally intelligent the school district did not want to acknowledge his needs. She was a paralegal at the time she started battling with her school district to get her son the help he needed, but due to her fight she further educated herself and became an Advocate for Children with Disabilities and Chair of the Special Needs Parent Council for her school district. In the past Karen has had jobs ranging from a Church Secretary to Paralegal – some argue that she went from working for the 'good guys' to working for the 'devil' LOL! She has also spent the last 10 years, as mentioned above, voluntarily advocating for kids with disabilities and their parents' rights to get them educated to their highest potential with the least amount of agony.
How Karen started online selling
Because her work was seasonal in nature, with some exceptions, she decided to try online selling to help clear out a lot of books and collectibles she had around the house and to continue to help support our family. Well, she got hooked, and now she just loves being able to find something beautiful in her area and having the opportunity to sell it to a person anywhere in the world who would appreciate and treasure it.
Karen's Standards
Karen holds herself and others to very high standards in what she sells and in how she does business. Because of this, she is a member of a few associations whose goals are the same as hers. Karen is a member of the Glass & Pottery Sellers Association whose purpose is to provide a better on-line trading community for buyers and sellers alike. For your buying peace of mind all GPSA members have been carefully screened and have agreed to follow the GPSA Guidelines. She is also SquareTrade Verified and displays the ST Seal on all auctions she runs on Ebay. SquareTrade's goal is to create a community of sellers that are committed to their customers. The Seal Program goes beyond the feedback system to provide a basis for added trust by verifying a Seal Member's identity and/or address. Seal members have committed to a set of selling standards. Karen has very eclectic tastes, so it is always a treasure hunt of sorts on her site or her listings on Ebay! Whether it is a book, collectible glass & pottery or other collectibles, there is always a person somewhere that would love to cherish her "finds". She relishes the opportunity to help you find that treasure for your home or a gift for the collector in your life, and greatly appreciates the chance to do business with you.
Other Interests/Experience
Karen has always been involved in activist organizations. She has held various positions that involved quite a bit of customer service work. All of these prior experiences, as well as the things she did just for fun, have given her great tools that help her now!
One of Karen's favorite positions was as a Lt in Civil Air Patrol, doing several jobs – Public Affairs Officer, Drill & Ceremony Instructor. She actively participated in several SARs (Search and Rescue) missions.
Karen was Ombudsman for her husband's ship for 3 years through the beginning of 2005, which meant she was the liaison between the families of the crew and the Commander of the ship. She developed a listserv for the families to keep everyone in touch and to help create a sense of community as they were all quite spread out. Karen also arranged several functions and get-togethers just for fun and for the kids!
She developed a listserv for the SNPAC full of resources and links to help with getting children what they need to succeed in school. In addition, she has conducted seminars all over the City of Boston, and MA to teach parents how to advocate for their children.
During the first Item Specifics mess that Ebay totally FUBAR'ed Karen developed the 'UniteEbay' listserv on YahooGroups which is less active now, but still has several members.
